Our Mission

This website has only one goal: to disseminate information on burn and fire prevention as widely as possible.  We have purposely left out fancy colors and graphics to facilitate connection with dial-up modems from anywhere in the world.

A lot of people have developed many  good burn and fire prevention programs.  Our aim is to identify these programs, and to make them available to burn and fire educators.  If you have a program that works, why not share it with us?   If you need a program, check here.  Maybe you don't have to re-invent the wheel.

We hope that you find our site interesting.  More importantly, we hope that you will find something that you can use for your own burn and fire prevention efforts, or to protect yourself and your family from fire or burn injury.

Who Are We ?

The webmasters and content providers are all professionals involved in fire safety, burn care, fire prevention, burn prevention, fire suppression or related fields.  We include firefighters, clergy, burn nurses and doctors, educators, and burn survivors.  Some of us are involved in prevention as part of our job, while others work on burn and fire prevention on their own time.  In our day jobs, we are employed in the private sector, in the military, or in federal, state or municipal agencies.  Our opinions sometimes diverge from those of our employers or professional societies and these groups sometimes underestimate the need to have prevention information on their official websites. For this reason, this website has no official affiliation with any employer, agency or professional organization.  What you see here is what we really think is important.    Our opinions only, your mileage may vary.

How to Use This Site

The website is organized by topics relating to fire and burn safety.  Some of the links refer to specific issues such as childrens' sleepwear standards or the fire-safe cigarette.  Others are specific to groups at increased risk such as firefighters or the elderly, or to activities with increased risk of fire or burn injury.  One page is devoted to links to other fire, burn or safety organizations, and one page provides information on contacting elected officials.  Everything is accessible from this page by clicking on the column of links to the left.

Downloads on this site are in PDF Format.  This requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print.  A free copy of Acrobat Reader may be downloaded from www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html
